About the ASM

The non-profit Arbeitsgemeinschaft selbständiger Migranten e. V. (Working Group of Immigrant Entrepreneurs), or ASM for short, was founded in the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce in 2007. Our main objective is to provide support for entrepreneurs and business owners with immigrant backgrounds, and we offer a wide range of informational, advising and educational services.

The ASM also places special emphasis on attracting business owners from immigrant backgrounds as participants in the dual system of vocational education. We provide entrepreneurs with detailed information about the job descriptions set out in the Vocational Training Act, answer practical questions about education and training, and encourage and assist them in creating trainee positions. The ASM also helps young people fresh out of school find the right trainee position.

In addition to practical tasks, such as coordinating training organisations and publishing informational material in a number of languages, we also work hard to encourage understanding and exchange between native Germans and people from other nations. We are commissioned by the Hamburg government and diverse federal ministries.

Together with the Arbeitsgemeinschaft türkischer Unternehmer und Existenzgründer e.V., the Hamburger Stiftung für Migranten and the Hamburg Plus gGmbH the organisation is an essential part of a complete competency centre for immigrants in Hamburg's inner city. (Schauenburgerstraße 49).

The extensive range of services offered by our centre includes trainee and job placement, coaching for young people and consulting services for entrepreneurs looking into setting up a new business. We round out our range with advising and qualification services for organisations in Hamburg that offer sponsorship programmes.

A total of 18 employees spread over two floors work to ensure that the needs of people from immigrant backgrounds are met. Many of us come from immigrant families ourselves and as such are familiar with the mindset and problems immigrants face. The range of nationalities in our offices also means we can our services in many of the native tongues spoken by immigrants in Hamburg.
