Since 2007 the Arbeitsgemeinschaft selbstständiger Migranten
e.V. (Working Group of Immigrant Entrepreneurs, ASM) has been successfully
organising a project within the framework of the JOBSTARTER
programme. This has including the founding of the Hamburger
Stiftung für Migranten (Hamburg Foundation for Immigrants,
site only available in German). Now the ASM has been commissioned
by the Federal Institute for Vocational Education to test training
building blocks in firms run by immigrants. The project is funded
by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research and the European
Union (European Social Funds).
In five different professions, we will test training building blocks
for repeat, semiskilled and unskilled applicants, particularly those
with an immigration background, in close cooperation with firms
run by immigrants. Our partners in this endeavour include trade
schools, the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and the Employment Agency.
Our responsibilities are to elevate, shape, document, evaluate
and ultimately transfer the framework conditions that would enable
training building blocks to be applied for the target group of disadvantaged
young people and proprietors with immigration backgrounds.
The "Training Building Blocks for Trade and Service"
programme objectives are to reintegrate young adults into training,
improving their qualifications, and to increase the marketability
of repeat applicants through their inclusion in the operational
activities in firms whose owners share an immigration background.
